Srinagar, Dec 31 (KNO): Srinagar’s “Wall of Kindness,” which was once called a symbol of community spirit, has now lost its charm and faded into darkness and dust. Initially, the wall was designed to help the less fortunate, allowing people to hang winter clothes for the needy to pick up. The initiative, which was hailed with headlines like “Wall of Kindness spreads warmth in Srinagar,” captured the hearts of many when it first appeared but has now lost its charm. According to details collected by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), located on the Bund side of Lal Chowk, the wall was meant to be a beacon of compassion. However, over time, it has turned into little more than a forgotten showpiece. Locals expressed their disappointment, saying the wall no longer serves its intended purpose. “At first, it felt like a great initiative. But now, it is just there, unnoticed and ignored,” said Zahid Ahmed, a local resident. He said it could have made a real difference, especially during the harsh winter months. Another resident, Wahid, shared, “I remember when people used to leave clothes here, and others would take them. Now, it is just another wall in the city, with no one bothering to contribute.” Notably, while the idea behind the Wall of Kindness was noble, its current state raises questions about the effectiveness of such initiatives when not properly maintained or supported by the community. It is worth mentioning that for now, the wall stands as a reminder of what could have been, waiting to regain its lost glow—(KNO)
